Closed-Cell Foam Float Keychains

This is the workhorse float: a block of closed-cell EVA foam, printed or moulded with your mark, on a split ring. It is light, it is cheap in quantity, it takes a bright colour beautifully, and unlike open-cell foam it has no interconnected pores for water to move into, so it does not slowly become a sponge.

The number that matters is not the size of the fob. It is the payload — how many grams of key the float will still hold at the surface. A block that floats gloriously on its own can be dragged straight under by one modern car fob, and that is the complaint behind almost every floating keychain anybody has ever been disappointed by.
